These include the 11 Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela built during the medieval Zagwe Dynasty of the 11th and 12th centuries. These churches which are literally curved out of the surrounding red volcanic rock with thier amazing edifices, underscore the exquisite workmanship of the Africans who built them.
